All Star Game was a Grand Slam Success

The Friends of the Public Garden along with the Back Bay Association and the The Boston Parks and Recreation Department are thrilled by the success of the All Star Game. Our players, who were sponsored by their local companies showed their support of the FOPG, while also bringing enthusiasm and good sportsmanship to the field. It was a perfect evening for a game on the Common, hosted by none other than Bob Lobel. The Blue team was coached by retired Friends President, Henry Lee who came out of retirement for this exciting event! The Green team was coached by Boston Parks Commissioner, Antonia Pollak.

The Green team started out strong with 7 runs in the first inning! Everyone was eager to see if the Blue team could catch up. The tables turned and the Blue ended up winning the game 17-11! It was a game well played and enjoyed by everyone. A special thanks to the umpire Mike McGrath and to Dave Jacobs for coaching first base.

Following the game, on the roof of the Motor Mart Garage the Friends hosted a Fenway style after-party.  The teams and guests enjoyed  sausage, hamburgers, hotdogs, provided by “The Sausage Guy.” It was a hit outta the park!

We want to thank everyone who made the event possible and to John DeMatteo for letting us use his Garage roof.

Stay tuned for photos next week!
