The Friends of the Public Garden, in association with the Boston Parks & Recreation and Mayor Menino, will once again celebrate Mother’s Day, May 8, 2011, with Boston families and the beloved story of the Mallards from Robert McCloskey’s classic Make Way for Ducklings. This year, the Boston Parents Paper will be an official media sponsor.
Like Jack, Kack, Lack, Mack, Nack, Ouack, Pack, and Quack, children will parade around Boston dressed as their favorite characters from the book. The Harvard University Band will lead the parade from the corner of Park Street and Beacon Street, weave through Beacon Hill, and suitably finish at the statue of the Mallard family. Family entertainment, including face painting, balloon artists, and a magician will be offered prior to the parade. After the parade, the Wheelock Family Theatre will treat attendees to a dramatic reading of the book.
A donation of $25 per family is requested for all participants and each family who registers will receive a special goodie bag filled with Duckling Day toys and treats. Registration will start at 10:30am and the parade will commence at 12pm.
