Helping Urban Trees Through Pruning

From Friends of the Public Garden Correspondent Greg Mosman, City Arborist of the Boston Parks & Recreation Department:

You all no doubt have noticed that this winter has been very hard on the city’s trees, including those in our parks. If you walk through the Common, Garden or Mall you will see small and large limbs that have sadly, come down in the storms. The Parks Department will be focused on removing limbs that have come down and taking out broken limbs from the trees. In the Garden, the Friends has hired arborists who will be coming in within the next week to do constructive repairs on trees that have been damaged. You may also have seen pruning work we contracted for being done several weeks ago in the Garden. We can’t always avoid damage, but the best way to protect our wonderful tree specimens in these parks is with regular pruning.
